If the revenues for the 39 largest private companies in Northwest Arkansas were combined, they would have brought in a total of $4.68 billion in 2001. The figures were recently published as part of the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s annual Largest Private Companies list, and are available in the Northwest Arkansas Book of Lists.r

The total for 2002 was a 1 percent increase from a combined $4.61 billion in 2001, although there was a slight variance in the companies that were included. If firms that are based elsewhere but have large local operations such as Baldwin & Shell Construction Co. in Rogers were added, the total would be much higher.r

Baldwin & Shell had local revenue of $19.4 million last year. The list also only included companies with at least $10 million in revenue, and intentionally excluded banks and other financial industry firms.r

By comparison, the 13 publicly traded firms based in Northwest Arkansas (excluding banks) had annual revenue of $277.46 billion carried by Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s $246.52 billion in 2002 revenue.r
