Gus and Irene Vratsinas of Little Rock have donated $100,000 to endow two new engineering scholarships at the University of Arkansas.

The donation will endow two Honors College Academy Scholarships in the College of Engineering’s civil engineering department. The money will be awarded to two entering freshman civil engineering students who have been accepted to the honors college and “show exceptional promise for careers in engineering.”

The Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation said it will match the Vratsinas’ gift with an $80,000 donation, part of a pool of $300 million the foundation gave the university to help create endowments.

Gus Vratsinas, who received a bachelor’s of science degree in 1967 and a master’s of science degree in 1968 from the UA, is chairman and CEO of Vratsinas Construction Co. of Little Rock, a commercial construction contractor. His wife Irene received a master’s degree in elementary education from the UA in 1972.
