The Benton County Daily Record won four first-place awards on May 3 at the Arkansas Associated Press Managing Editors Association’s annual convention in Hot Springs. The Bentonville newspaper won 10 awards altogether.

Tonya McKiever, a reporter, and David Frank Dempsey, a photographer, took two firsts each as the Daily Record competed in the large dailies division.

Other first-place winners were: the Southwest Times Record of Fort Smith with three, the Northwest Arkansas Times of Fayetteville with two, and The Morning News of Springdale with one.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette won 12 first-place awards statewide in addition to the general excellence award. The association didn’t differentiate between the D-G’s Northwest Arkansas edition, which is based in Springdale and circulated throughout 12 counties, but it appeared the local operation won one first-place award.
