‘Is That Dust on Your Mailbox?’
The Fayetteville city government has done an outstanding job balancing the problem of maintaining the beauty of the landscape while allowing business to grow.
But sometimes rhyme and reason are tossed aside in Fayetteville.
The latest case in point was brought to our attention by a reader who showed us a copy of a violation notice he received in the mail from code compliance officer Preston Hammons. The notice said the reader was in violation of code 95.01 for unsightly or unsanitary conditions on real property.
A photo was even included of the violation.
It seems the violation was a result of ashes that had been poured to melt ice and snow on North Cambridge Road in front of the reader’s house. The reader would not say whether or not he had even dumped the ashes, but he said he was later informed the violation was dropped after he took it upon himself to wash them away.
What we wonder is if a few ashes out in a street are of so much of a concern, what about such unsightly things like the junkyard on Old Wire Road near the Township Street intersection?
