Darlee Chaloupek, co-anchor of the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on NBC 24/51, took maternity leave two months ago and won’t return to work for the Fayetteville television station.

“She’s not going back to work,” said Bob White, a Fayetteville lawyer representing Chaloupek. White refused to elaborate when contacted on Feb. 26.

KPOM/KFAA, NBC 24/51, hired Deena Day in January to co-anchor the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. A native of Arkansas, Day had been working for a television station in Meridian, Miss.

Chaloupek had been with NBC 24/51 since Griffin Holdings Inc. of Muskogee, Okla., relaunched its newscast in 2000 after abandoning local news coverage in 1992. Chaloupek was moved from her position as reporter and morning anchor to evening co-anchor late in 2000.

Chaloupek previously worked in Joplin, Mo., for NBC affiliate KSNF.
