Soy Pectin Inc. and Agricultural Research Initiative Corp. are the two latest clients of the University of Arkansas’ Genesis Technology Incubator.

The companies will take up about 1,200 SF of space, bringing Genesis’ occupied total up to about 30,000 SF. The incubator has about 9,000 SF still available.

Both firms were started by UA grads.

Philip Crandall is president of Soy Pectin and Philip Serafini is its chief financial officer and secretary. The firm aims to market a process to extract short chain, low-molecule weight pectinaceous material from soy bean hulls. That may not sound particularly commercial, but the process can be used for lucrative health applications related to lowering cholesterol and improving intestinal functions.

AEIC’s president, Kelly Cartwright, is developing ways to better combat pests in a variety of settings including horticulture and certain kinds of crops.
