Charles Flanary became a professional barber so he and his wife, Marie, could work together. With more than 14 years of combined experience, the couple operated a salon and barber shop in Bella Vista for four years but decided to scale down their staff and open a smaller shop in Bentonville this year. With only two additional stylists and less square footage at their new shop, Flanary said he’s happy with the change.

The shop was built to specs and custom plumbed and wired so that all the Flanarys had to do was hook up their sinks and hang up the open sign in the new Crossroads Plaza. Flanary said they’re not out any additional opening costs. Although the shop’s lease is a little more per square foot than the old location, Flanary said they made up the difference by renting less space.

The salon can handle a variety of hair styles and cuts for both sexes and all ages, he said, explaining what he thinks sets A Cut Above apart from other salons. The professional barber shop is a big hit in the Bentonville and Bella Vista area, and Flanary said many old customers are making the trip to the couple’s new shop.

At least one former stylist, Linda Pelesky, also made the move to Bentonville with the Flanarys, and she brought along her 34 years’ experience in the business.

A Cut Above also offers Matrix and Nisim hair products and Synergy facial care products.
