Robert Carey Dies At Age 68

Robert “Bob” Carey, a retired journalism professor from the University of Arkansas, died July 8 after a sudden heart attack while visiting his son in Florida.

Carey began teaching at the UA in 1980. He specialized in news writing, feature writing, ethics and communications law. He officially retired in May.

Originally from Oklahoma, Carey worked as a reporter and editor at United Press International for 18 years before joining the UA. During his tenure with UPI, Carey worked in Little Rock, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and New York City covering everything from NASA to the funeral of Elvis Presley.
