Strong Candidate Refuses to Cancel Meeting

Beck Campbell, a Springdale mayoral candidate, remembered something her campaign manager had told her and refused to cancel a “Meet-the-Candidate” coffee gathering despite still recovering from injuries she received in an attack from two of her Fayetteville apartment tenants.

Campbell is the landlord of several apartments in Fayetteville. On the morning of June 8, she was attacked by a mother and daughter that she had evicted days earlier. She received a severe concussion, several lacerations possibly a cracked rib and several bruises. She has undergone two C.A.T. scans.

While doing some repair work, 6-foot, 1-inch tall Gloria Brown, 47, and 5-foot, 7-inch Deserae Brown, 22, confronted the 38-year-old Campbell and began beating her with 2-inch by 2-inch board.

Campbell said Springdale lawyer Anita Davis had always told her to never cancel an event, and despite the “wooziness” from the concussion and other injuries, she made the coffee gathering one week later.

The Browns were arrested June 19 at a home in Rogers.
