A $17,112 grant for books and supplies to the Springdale High School Medical Academy was approved on May 3 by the Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation. The money will come out of the Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary Fund, which is a donor-advised fund within NWACF’s family of investments.

NWACF is the lead public foundation operated in connection with CommunityCare.

The grant will fund a new emergency response class that will create a 30-student team each semester that can serve the whole two-county area.

SHS is the state’s only school to have a medical professional education program, which is designed to prepare students for careers in medicine. Two registered nurses, Ann Phillips and Laurie Creek-Morgan, serve as the program’s faculty.

Established in 1993 as a statewide pilot program, SHS’ medical professional education program has 350-400 active participants.
