Corky?s in Hog Hell?

A sign on the door at Corky’s Ribs & BBQ in Fayetteville says “Temporarily closed. Thank you for your business.”

We couldn’t locate Ben Clark, majority owner of the franchise restaurant, to see how long Corky’s would be closed or whether it would reopen with a new owner.

Clark began providing Corky’s barbecue at Arkansas Razorbacks football games this past fall, but he told the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal in December that the profit margin for that catering job is just about zero.

We hear that, after everything was said and done, the stadium deal wasn’t even as good as Clark thought it was going to be.

Forty percent of gross profits is taken off the top for the privilege of catering the Hog games. The University of Arkansas takes 20 percent, and Sodexho Marriott Services Inc. takes 20 percent. Sodexho operates the food service on the UA campus.
