Nancy Skaarer was laid off by KHBS/KHOG, TV Channels 40/29, in early March.
About a week later, the station learned the only first place award it will receive this year from The Associated Press is for a report Skaarer did on the recovery of Haley Zega, 6, who was lost in the Buffalo River wilderness area for 51 hours.
When we reached Skaarer at her parents’ home in Oklahoma City, however, she had no hard feelings toward the station.
“I thanked them for the opportunity to work there,” she said.
