James and Shana Ross recently opened Ross Medical Billing Solutions to electronically process medical claims for doctors in Northwest Arkansas.

Island Automated Medical Systems in St. Petersburg, Fla., licensed the Rosses to file the claims. The married couple paid IAMS $7,500 for the start-up package, which included a week of instruction in sales and marketing and software training. In addition to learning to operate the IAMS programs, the Rosses are also Microsoft certified.

For now, Ross Medical Billing Solutions will function from the owners’ home, and James Ross manages the firm’s daily operations. Shana Ross works a full-time advertising job in the area.

Doctors, dentists and chiropractors can call on the company, and the Rosses will be licensed to serve hospitals within six months. Ross Medical Billing Solutions also offers procedure code analysis, a report that shows the accuracy of previously filed medical claims.

James Ross holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Arkansas, and Shana Ross has a bachelor’s in mathematics from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania and a master’s in drama from the UA.
