Everyday Low-Cost Camping
Apparently, the 54th most interesting thing on Earth is fact that old folks are camping in Wal-Mart store parking lots.
At least that’s what Gear magazine said in its January/February issue. The magazine — the “mainstream” offering from the publishers of Penthouse — ranked “The Gear 100 Hottest People, Places and Things on the Planet.”
Gear said elderly people are parking their RVs in Wal-Mart parking lots overnight.
“We view them as customers who take a long time to make up their minds,” said Tom Williams, a spokesman for Wal-Mart. “They’re good customers … Anywhere in the United States, where regulations don’t prevent it, we allow RVers to park in our lots overnight. It’s a convenience thing more than anything else.”
Williams said a Wal-Mart store manager in Anchorage, Alaska, goes out to greet the RVers and tells them they’re allowed to camp in the parking lot for no longer than two days.
