One of the sons of former Fayetteville Mayor Fred Hanna could be announcing soon his intentions to run for the Ward 2 city council seat that will soon be vacated by Randy Zurcher.

Thad Hanna, 42, is an investment advisor for Edward Jones Investments in Fayetteville. He has lived in Ward 2 for all but six years of his life when he was working for American Airlines in Dallas.

Hanna told the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal he was seriously “thinking” about running for the position when it becomes vacant. Zurcher has announced his plans to vacate his position effective March 1 so he could move to San Francisco to be with his girlfriend.

Hanna said he can make no such announcement before getting permission from his company’s home office in St. Louis.

Hanna is one of four children of Fred Hanna, Fayetteville’s mayor from 1992-2000. A younger brother, Burt, founded Hanna’s Candle Co.

Fred Hanna was defeated in the Fayetteville mayoral election in November 2000 by Dan Coody.
