La Playa Mexican Restaurant opened Nov. 3 at 727 S. School St. in Fayetteville.

The restaurant is owned by Salvador Arellano. His daughter Andrea Calderon and her husband Hugo Calderon run the business.

Arellano said La Playa serves “authentic Mexican food” and specializes in super-sized burritos ($4.75) that contain either beef or chicken, with fajita meat or shredded meat.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner six days a week. Lunch entrées range in price from $3.60-$5.30. Dinner entrées cost $5-$8.

In addition to the burritos, Arellano also is proud of the fajitas ($5.30 at lunch, $8 for dinner) and chili relleno ($3.90 for lunch, $5.25 for dinner with an enchilada). The meals are served with rice and beans.

The restaurant seats about 50 diners.

This is the second restaurant for Arellano. He previously operated La Mexicana in Live Oak, Calif.
