Delta Systems Scores Seattle Deal

Bentonville’s Delta Systems Inc., the automation and motion control company, has signed yet another big client. The firm announced Oct. 4 that DSD Communications Inc. of Seattle, Wash., has licensed Delta’s core motion control software — SoftFlow.

Five days later, Delta shipped a complete automated feeding and wrapping system to the Sara Lee Bakery Group in Paris, Texas. The equipment, said Delta Chairman and CEO Gerald Hurlow, offers a unique solution for the bakery sector’s widespread problem of rapidly packaging delicate food products.

DSD, a marketing solutions firm for large retailers, intends to use SoftFlow as part of the control system for specialized equipment that’s used in the distribution of promotional materials on behalf of its customers.

Terms of the multiyear license and maintenance deal with DSD were not disclosed.

David Van Buskirk, DSD’s executive vice president, said this particular application requires a sophisticated motion control system that is “reliable, flexible, scalable and provides real time access to production data.” He said SoftFlow filled the bill.

“We chose SoftFlow because it’s a unique solution that addresses all of these issues, while at the same time providing a cost effective, standardized, solution based on a PC platform,” Van Buskirk said.
