In Sam We Collect

Sam Walton memorabilia is apparently a hot seller on eBay, the Internet auction site.

We recently scanned the items on eBay and found a 1937 Savitar, the University of Missouri’s yearbook, which contained two photos of the late founder of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

“The real bonus is that Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart mogul empire, was a freshman this year, and his picture appears twice in the book,” the ad states. “What a cutie he was!”

The seller, based somewhere in Missouri, opened bidding at $39 but had no bids as of Sept. 27, which was four days into the auction with three days to go.

Another seller on eBay was hawking a first-day commemorative postcard celebrating the 100th anniversary of Kansas statehood. It was postmarked from Council Grove, Kan., on May 10, 1961. The card was signed by Walton, Donald Trump, Armand Hammer, Jack Kent and W. H. Anneneberg. We assumed most of these people signed it long after 1961. Bidding for the card started at $87.50 and the North Carolina seller had one bid as of Sept. 27 with five days to go.
