Springdale City Council/Apartment Battle No. 2

City officials in Rogers may soon want to check notes with Springdale leaders on how that city handled the recent controversy regarding a proposed apartment complex.

Rogers may face the same dilemma if a group follows through with its plans to build a complex with about 260 units near the city’s new high school.

The plan, which has not been sent yet to the Rogers Planning Commission, is for the apartments to be built at the intersection of South Dixieland Road and Price Lane.

The problem may be that Rogers is already outgrowing its schools, due largely to the influx of high-density housing developments. The kindergarten class in Rogers this year has 975 students, only slightly fewer than Springdale’s first grade (1,087) and second grade (1,004) classes.

The Springdale City Council recently voted against a proposed apartment/golf course complex, although its reasoning had more to do with how the land was zoned than population control.
