Waltons Sighted Pack Rat-ting

The woodsy folks looking at canoes outside the Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville on a recent Sunday afternoon probably didn’t notice the richest woman in the world sitting there under a shade tree.

But the Waltons are just like everybody else when it comes to a good sale.

Jim Walton and his mother Helen were seen July 29 shopping for a new kayak at the Pack Rat.

Scott Crook, owner of the store, said brothers Jim and Rob Walton are regular customers. Jim Walton heads Arvest Bank Group Inc. Rob Walton is chairman of the board of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. They are sons of the late Sam Walton, who founded the world’s largest retail chain.

Crook said Helen Walton sat in a folding chair under a shade tree while her son shopped for a new kayak.

Jim Walton bought a kayak that had a retail price of about $1,000, Crook said. It was on sale for 40 percent off.
