Tyson Teams with Rosemount

Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale recently began a “tie-in” with Rosemount Estates, one of Australia’s largest wine producers.

About 400,000 bottles of Rosemount wine for sale in North America have a tag around the neck encouraging consumers to purchase Tyson chicken to go along with their wine.

The tags include a $1 off coupon toward Tyson chicken and a sweepstakes entry form for a free trip for two to Australia through Air New Zealand. The tags also include the recipe for “Tyson coach house chicken.”

Jennifer Pribe, product manager for Tyson Foods, said Tyson was approached by Rosemount concerning the tie-in. She said Tyson has had similar promotions with Clos du Bois, another wine maker, as well as Green Giant, a division of Pillsbury, and Uncle Ben’s, the Houston-based rice company.

Besides the winery, Tyson currently has tie-in promotions under way with Tabasco, Mrs. Dash and Campbell Soup, Co.

Foreign wines account for about 10 percent of the $1.2 billion U.S. wine market. The United States imports about 4 million gallons of wine — $60 million worth — from Australia each year.
