Since he was a teenager, 42-year-old Daniel Doeppke has built and repaired custom motorcycles as a hobby. On nights and weekends, he outfitted bikes for his friends, but a full-time job usually took up most of his day. Recently, the gleaming chrome became more than a pastime when he and his brother John opened D&D Cycle in Rogers.

D&D Cycle sells American V-twin bikes that cost $6,000-$45,000, and Daniel Doeppke noted that he can get parts for most bikes.

To create a base for his venture, Doeppke bought a closing, 65-year-old Harley Davidson store in Indiana. Including the buyout, his estimated start-up costs topped $200,000.

Supported by the Indiana shop’s inventory, antique and custom cycles are the D&D Cycle specialty. Doeppke said the oldest Harley Davidson piece in his back stock is from 1911.

More than 10 shiny bikes line the store’s showroom, and D&D Cycle also sells riding apparel and jewelry. One of the four staff members also offers tailored leather work for cycle accessories. Doeppke rides a 1981 Harley Davidson low rider.
