Springdale Schools recently obtained a building permit valued at $5.02 million to build the first of eight new schools to be completed by 2010 as proposed by the school board.

East Elementary School will be located at 2700 S. Butterfield Coach Road in southeast Springdale. It is expected to open in August 2002.

Jim Wood Co. of Little Rock won the bid submitted for the 71,000-SF school.

Wittenberg Delony & Davidson Architects of Little Rock are also involved with the project.

The school board voted last fall to approve the sale of $7 million in bonds to pay for the new school.

Springdale plans to have five new elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high and a new high school in place by 2010.

Keatings Continue Sunbridge Growth

The Keating Boys on March 20 purchased four building permits valued at a total of $850,000 to build four commercial buildings in Fayetteville.

The buildings will be at Sunbridge Center, just east of North Gregg Avenue, boasting a total 25,708 SF. Three of the buildings will be on the east end of Sunbridge Center, while a fourth will be on the south side, just east of the offices of West Teleservices.

Bridgebuilders Inc. is the general contractor on the Sunbridge projects. All four buildings are under construction, with the target date for leasing within the next three months.

Porter Place Townhouses to Triple Number of Units

Harrison Davis Construction on April 3 purchased three building permits valued at a combined $759,432 to build several more townhouses in Fayetteville.

Located in the 2400 block of Sycamore Street, the Porter Place Townhouses have 23 existing units and an additional 49 planned. The units will be 1,024 SF each. Tim Davis is the owner of the townhouses.

Harrison Davis Construction will also add three new homes at Meridian Place subdivision in Siloam Springs. The 1,200-SF, three-bedroom, two-bath homes will have gas-log fireplaces and will be priced at about $80,000 each.

Barnes Buys Building for Rogers Restaurant

Bruce and P.J. Barnes on March 6 got a loan of $623,394 from Arvest Bank of Rogers to purchase the building and property where their Rogers restaurant is located.

Mister B’s Steakhouse, 1043 W. Walnut St. in Rogers, has been open since Nov. 17. The 3,500-SF building was the site of Lyndal’s Fashion Shop for 28 years.

For the past 10 years, the Barneses managed Herman’s Rib House in Fayetteville. They left Herman’s last June.

Herman’s is a Fayetteville restaurant that opened in 1964. Herman Tuck sold the restaurant to Benny Spears last year.

Scurlock Industries Adding to Business

Scurlock Industries of Fayetteville on April 6 purchased a building permit valued at $585,400 to add to its existing building near Drake Field in south Fayetteville.

Scurlock was formerly Tri State Precast of Little Rock.

Located at 3725 S. McCollum Ave., Scurlock is having an additional 10,000 SF built by G.S. Tate General Contractors.

Scurlock manufactures concrete products such as manhole covers, drainage pipes, etc.

Damen Adding Five Deane Duplexes

Emad Damen & Associates of Fayetteville in March purchased five building permits valued at a combined total of $566,660 to build duplexes in west Fayetteville.

Each unit in the duplex will be just under 1,000 SF. They will be located at 2233, 2235, 2307, 2309, 2311, 2313, 2315, 2317, 2319 and 2321 W. Deane St.

The general contractor on the duplexes is Charles Sloan & Associates.

Old High Middle School Gets New Playground

Bentonville Public Schools recently purchased a building permit for $500,000 to build a new playground for Old High Middle School.

The old bus shop and maintenance area at 301 NW 3rd St. have been leveled, and Bentonville Schools plans to eliminate two old houses on the property.

There are plans to build a basketball court, ball wall, swingset area, quiet area and perhaps a softball field.

Nearby R.E. Baker Elementary School has also enjoyed an extended playground with the construction, which includes a new gym, cafeteria and library it shares with Old High Middle School.

Pinewoods Subdivision Features Many Attractions

Gary Brandon of Gary Brandon Enterprises Inc. of Springdale on March 19 got a loan of $420,000 from Arvest Springdale Bank & Trust to continue construction of one of Springdale’s most attractive new subdivisions.

Located in northwest Springdale on a 57-acre tract bordering Washington and Benton counties, Pinewoods subdivision will have 116 lots.

Homes in Pinewoods have a minimum requirement of 2,000 SF, but many of the homes will be much larger. The development will feature a jogging trail, swimming pool and gazebo. Pinewoods is near Smith Elementary School and Interstate 540.

Lowell Subdivision Just Keeps Growing

Mike and Tim Graham of Saddlewood Development Inc. recently purchased five more building permits totaling $403,920 for more homes in a large Lowell subdivision.

Southfork subdivision, located in southeast Lowell, is currently undergoing construction of its Phase III, which has 224 lots.

Saddlewood’s latest five permits are for 504 and 506 Crystal St. and 603, 607 and 611 Emerald St.

Tim Graham is also president of Red Rock Development Inc., which on March 13 got five loans totaling $300,000 from J.B. Hunt LLC to build more houses at Southfork.

Homes in Southfork range from $75,000 to $90,000 and from 1,200 to 1,800 SF.

Trim Line Design Adds to Cambridge

Trim Line Design construction company of Springdale recently purchased three more building permits totaling $346,158 to continue building at a Lowell subdivision.

Cambridge subdivision is located in northeast Lowell. Mike Pennington of Pennington Development in Springdale owns the subdivision.

Trim Line’s latest three projects will be at 717 and 719 Colley St. and at 727 Almoo St. The homes will be about 1,710 SF each.

Whispering Timbers Gets Boston Homes

Mike Boston Builders recently purchased two building permits valued at a combined $278,800 to build a pair of Rogers homes.

The homes are in Whispering Timbers subdivision. One is located at 1210 N. Wren Drive and is 2,652 SF. The other is at 1304 N. Wren Drive and is 2,589 SF.
