Bentonville Architect to Get a New Home

Harrison French Architects in Bentonville on March 6 secured a loan of $1.8 million from Arkansas National Bank of Bentonville to build a new office complex.

Currently located at 502 SW ‘A’ St. in Bentonville, the firm will be moving to 809 SW ‘A’ St. by the end of November. Harrison French will occupy the second floor of a 20,000-SF building. The first floor, which French hopes to have occupied by early November, will have retail and other business spaces available.

The building will be the first of five phases Harrison French has planned for a five-acre site that will be known as the French Addition. It was formerly known as the Smartt subdivision.

Sellers Properties Inc. of Springdale is the general contractor on the project.

Harrison French, which has 40 employees, is trying to promote a pedestrian-friendly community affect to anchor Bentonville’s downtown development. The French Addition will be eight blocks from the downtown square.

Episcopal Church Adding More Space

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville on March 12 got a loan of $1.3 million from Bank of Fayetteville to add a multipurpose facility to its existing building.

The church, located at 224 N. East Ave., is adding close to 10,000 SF. A new parish hall, kitchen and office spaces will be in the new building. There will also be some renovating done with the existing facility. The current kitchen will be turned into a children’s room and the current parish hall will become the new choir room.

Nabholz Construction of Rogers is the general contractor on the project, which has a target completion date of March, 2002.

St. Paul’s, which has a congregation of more than 1,000 members, owns the parking lot east of its facility that borders Dickson Street.

Millennium Place Gets New Buildings

John David Lindsey and Kirk Elsass of L&E Equity Investments Inc. on March 13 got a $1.2 million loan from Arvest McIlroy Bank of Fayetteville to add two more commercial buildings in northeast Fayetteville.

The one-story buildings will be located at Millennium Place and will be 6,400 SF each. Construction has begun on one of the buildings.

Millennium Place is located near the northwest corner of Joyce Boulevard and Arkansas Highway 265 with entrances from both roads.

The law firm of Benson Robinson & Wood PLC will be moving shortly into one of L&E’s completed 2,800-SF buildings at Millennium Place. Currently at 2020 E. Joyce Blvd., the law firm will occupy the space at 2774 E. Millennium Drive.

Also, Tom Mars and David Stills will soon be moving from Little Rock to Fayetteville to open a law firm at 2766 E. Millennium Drive. Mars retired in February as director for the Arkansas State Police. Stills is still the chief legal officer for the organization. Their law firm is expected to open about June 1.

L&E will be building two more office buildings at Millennium Place, one with 3,300 SF and the other with 2,500 SF. They will be on lot 9 of the site.

Jordan & Associates were the architects for the buildings for L&E at Millennium Place. Steve Denoon was the draftsman.

Scottsdale Center Welcomes the Gap

Cypress Equities of Dallas recently purchased a building permit valued at $688,000 to build a Gap store in Rogers.

Gap Inc. is one of the nation’s leading casual clothing companies. There is already one located in Fayetteville at the Northwest Arkansas Mall.

Baldwin & Shell Construction Co. of Springdale will be the general contractor for the 15,065 SF building. Located at 529 N. 46th St. in Scottsdale Center, The Gap will occupy about two-thirds of the building with a yet-to-be named tenant leasing the remaining space.

Lindsey Purchases Many Lowell Lots

John David Lindsey Development LLC on March 5 got a loan of $655,500 from Arvest McIlroy Bank of Fayetteville to purchase several lots at a Lowell subdivision.

Lindsey bought the remaining 46 lots at Cambridge subdivision from Mike Pennington.

Woodworks Plus Inc. of Farmington will be building 10 of the houses for Lindsey.

Lindsey and Kirk Elsass of L&E Equity Investments Inc., secured a loan of $125,587 to purchase lots 54 and 57 at Fayetteville’s Candlewood subdivision. Those homes will be about $400,000 each and will range from 3,100 to 3,300 SF. Lance Johnson Builders is the general contractor on the Candlewood homes.

Kristyl Heights Continues Growth

Tim Thatcher of United Arkansas General Construction Co. recently purchased eight building permits valued at a total of $561,000 to build new homes at a Bentonville subdivision.

The homes are located in Phase 4-B of Kristyl Heights IV. They are at 2304, 2312, 2400, 2412, 2500, 2502, 2504 and 2506 SW Choctaw St., and will from about 1,550-1,700 SF each.

Bill Lazenby of Lazenby Construction Co. in Fayetteville is also building two more homes at Kristyl Heights, purchasing two building permits valued at a total of $147,000. Those homes will be at 2305 and 2307 SW 10th St.

Walker Adding More Homes at Brightwood

Tommy Walker Construction Co. of Rogers recently purchased four building permits valued at a combined $519,000 to build more homes at a Bentonville subdivision.

The homes are all located in Phase II of Brightwood subdivision near Arkansas Highway 12. These four homes will all be on SW Maple Road and will be between 2,000 and 2,100 SF each.

Homes in Brightwood will be a minimum of 1,600 SF and range in price from about $110,000 to $150,000. The Phase II development will have 62 lots. Phase I had 50 lots. There will be a Phase III with 31 lots.

School Cafeteria To Get Expansion

Fayetteville Public Schools recently purchased a building permit valued at $459,800 to have a cafeteria at one of its elementary schools expanded.

Washington Elementary, located at 425 N. Highland Ave., is adding about 5,000 SF to its cafeteria. Crossland Construction Co. of Rogers is expecting to have the addition completed by July 1.

There are 10 elementary schools in the Fayetteville Public Schools system.

Re/Max’s Carpenter had Top 20 performance

John Carpenter had $9.43 million in residential sales for 2000, much higher than the figure incorrectly submitted by Re/Max & Associates for the April 2 (Northwest Arkansas Business Journal) listing of top local real estate agents. The correct figure would rank him No. 17 on the list.
