TransMontaigne Oil Co. is in the process of eliminating one of its three principle offices. The Fayetteville business on North College Avenue is expected to be completely gone by September.

The company’s headquarters is in Denver, Colo., and its operating offices are in Atlanta, Ga.

TransMontaigne once employed about 50 people, occupying the entire fifth floor of the Washington County courthouse. It moved into that space in 1986. However, it has since vacated those premises in favor of the old theater building near the old courthouse. The company was reportedly still paying rent at the courthouse, but we were unable to reach anyone at the Fayetteville offices to comment.

The business could be eliminated before September, but remaining employees have been informed they would receive a month’s notice before the exact date it would close its doors.

Some employees will be relocated at either the Denver or Atlanta offices.

TransMontaigne is a logistics company that transports oil products, including at one point 95 percent of the gasoline sold in Northwest Arkansas, from refineries to retail outlets and from oil fields to refineries.
