New Wal-Mart Supercenter Opens in Fayetteville
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. opened its 405th Supercenter on Oct. 8 in Fayetteville’s Spring Creek Center area.
The store is the first of its kind with a floor plan designed to make shopping easier. The Supercenter replaces the Wal-Mart store that had been open since 1981 at Fayetteville’s Fiesta Square shopping center. That store was closed Oct. 7.
At 202,000 SF, the new Supercenter is somewhat larger than most, which average about 180,000-SF in size. The Fiesta Square store had 86,223 SF and didn’t contain a grocery section as Supercenters do. The new store will also contain an enclosed garden center, One Source nutrition center and Hardware 2000 section.
Wal-Mart officials say the opening of the new store has created about 220 new jobs in the city.
The former Fiesta Square Wal-Mart will become a Silk Tree Factory store. The Fayetteville location will be the 16th store for Silk Tree Factory, a Paducah, Ky., based home decorating company.
In addition to 405 Supercenters, Wal-Mart also operates 1,917 discount stores, 442 Sam’s Clubs and 42 distribution centers nationwide.
