Former Owner of George?s Dies

Mary Hinton, former owner of George’s Majestic Lounge on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street, died Feb. 12 after struggling with cancer. She was 80.
Hinton and her husband bought the business in 1947. She sold it in 1987 to two couples: Dr. William and Betty Harrison, and Burett and Margie Waggoner. But Hinton remained owner of the building and continued to work at George’s until January.
George’s, which opened in the 1920s, is the oldest tavern in Fayetteville.
A funeral was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville on Feb. 15.
