Apparently, the name Walton is giving a boost to the University of Arkansas’ college of business.

A group of 15 people from L.G. Home Shopping Inc., one of Korea’s largest retail businesses, came to the UA in early February to attend a retail training program in the business college’s Center for Retail Excellence. They were interested in the college because it’s named for Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer.

“As a retailer, we came here to learn mainly because of the spirit of Sam Walton,” said Myoung Ho Woo, one of the participants in the training program, which was set up for the Korean delegation. “While the program was going on, our interest in Sam Walton increased.”

The college officially changed its name from the UA College of Business Administration to the Sam M. Walton College of Business Administration last year after receiving a $50 million donation from the Walton family. Recently, the university decided to toss the word “administration” from that long-winded designation, with the result being the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

In addition to the UA, the Korean group also went to Florida to visit the Home Shopping Network and several outlet malls.
