First Baptist Church of Fayetteville has purchased a Fayetteville landmark in the former Goff-McNair Motor Co. building.

The church bought the building, at 331 N. College Ave., for $750,000 from partners Dash Goff and the Charles McNeal Family, representing G&M Investments.

The two-story, 18,000-SF building was constructed in 1947 by Gene Goff. Goff-McNair had the Lincoln-Mercury dealership for 47 years before selling it to Don Nelms in 1997.

First Baptist Church, with property joining the new acquisition, made its first offer on the building and land in 1984. Church officials said that they have no plans for the building for now but that its membership of 1,100 would like more parking space.
