Classic children’s books thrive in the Storybook Cottage, a new toy and book shop in Northwest Arkansas. Timeless stories such as “Alice in Wonderland,” “Stuart Little” and “Little House on the Prairie” along with a more contemporary selection of tales stock the book shelves. Tables and chairs sized for smaller people offer children a comfortable atmosphere to get to know the book characters.
Raising two children of her own, shop owner Jennifer Fielding designed the Storybook Cottage to fit the needs of families in Northwest Arkansas.
Creating a personal space for families to enjoy helps set Storybook Cottage aside from other larger stores, Fielding says, adding that kids are welcome to handle the toys and books in the shop.
“It is really hands-on,” Fielding says.
Toys in the shop cater to the natural curiosity of youth with products like binoculars, periscopes and magnet puzzles.
About half of the store’s floor space contains the toy and book selections while the remaining space is used as a rentable party room. Story readings are also available, for an extra charge, for parties.
