Bill and Walter Mathews plan to demolish the 20-year-old McDonald’s restaurant at 201 S. Walton Blvd. and build a new “state-of-the-art McDonald’s” in its place.

Bill Mathews says he plans to begin the work in February and be finished with the project in May. The project was approved Jan. 18 by the Bentonville Planning Commission.

Bill Mathews says the new restaurant will be about the same size (4,200 SF) as the old one, but the new store will have an indoor play place for children and double drive-through lanes for diners on the go.

Equipment and construction costs will run more than $1 million for the project, he says.

The Mathews brothers own franchise rights to 16 McDonald’s restaurants, including all of those in Benton and Washington counties.
