In addition to working on the Campbell-Bell building, in May, Sixth Street Development Co. closed a deal to purchase the U-Ark Bowl building on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street.

The developers are buying the 20,000-SF building from Leroy Pearce for $450,000.

Rob Merry-Ship of Sixth Street Development says renovation should begin around January to restore the outside to its original condition. Tenants will be allowed to stay there, at least initially, he says.

The building was constructed in 1940. Originally, it contained a bowling alley on the first floor and a ballroom on the second.

With the purchase, Sixth Street also got an option to purchase, at a future date, the U-Ark Theater building on the south side of Dickson Street. The building is currently occupied by several tenants between Underwood’s Fine Jewelry and University Avenue. It was constructed in 1926 and contains an apartment complex. When the time comes, renovation there will probably include tearing down three houses behind the building to make room for a parking lot, Merry-Ship says.
