Kudos to Linda Tyler. Will Jason Rapert Follow Her Lead?

Today, State Senate candidate and current State Representative Linda Tyler took an admirable position that other legislators should follow. Tyler pledged to not raise funds during the upcoming legislative fiscal session, which begins on February 13.

In her press release today, Tyler said the following:

“The session is about doing our job as legislators, not about campaigning or scoring political points,” said Tyler. “During the session, I will be solely focused on the needs of Faulkner and Perry counties and on meeting our obligation of balancing the state’s budget. Just as you’ve worked hard to keep your family’s pocketbook on track during these tough times, I’ll be working to ensure the essential state programs and services you count on continue to be adequately funded, while keeping a close eye on how your hard-earned tax dollars are spent.”

Kudos to Linda Tyler for taking a proactive position on this issue. Not accepting campaign contributions during the fiscal session shows she is more committed to good government than running for political office.

Will her Republican opponent, Senator Jason Rapert, do the same and not accept contributions during the fiscal session? The ball is in his court.
