Scott Price, the former CEO of DHL Express Europe, will begin Oct. 15 as the new president and CEO of Walmart Asia.

Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Thursday (Sept. 10) that Price will report to Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart International, and will manage the company’s operations in China, India, Japan and other parts of Asia.

Price, who will base from Wal-Mart’s regional office in Hong Kong, held several executive positions with DHL, including CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific and president of DHL Express Japan. Before DHL, Price worked with Coca Cola for 10 years where his jobs included country manager in China.

“Scott brings tremendous global and regional experience and expertise to this position.
He is the ideal candidate to lead this highly competitive region,” McMillon said. “In his roles with Coca Cola and DHL, he has established a history of delivering results in the Asian markets.  He knows the countries, he knows the customers, he knows how to run a business and he knows the region’s potential. We are eager to leverage his insight and capabilities to further our efforts in this region.”

Walmart reports it has more than 100,000 employees and approximately 630 operations in China, India and Japan.

Price earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina, and an MBA and master of arts in Asian studies from the University of Virginia.

Wal-Mart Stores has 8,000 retail stores under 53 different banners in 15 countries. The company employs more than 2.1 million worldwide, and posted 2009 fiscal year sales of $401 billion.
