Joining central and northwest Arkansas, representatives from northeast Arkansas announced the launch of a new regional Political Animals Club.

The Jonesboro Regional Chamber Government Relations Committee is helping start the new chapter.

“We’re delighted to see northeast Arkansas get a Political Animals chapter,” said Rex Nelson, president of the central Arkansas PAC. “The original Political Animals Club in central Arkansas is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is stronger than it has ever been. There’s obviously a hunger among Arkansans to talk politics, which ranks right up there with football as our favorite contact sport in this state.”

Andrea Allen, district director for Cong. Rick Crawford (R), and L.J. Bryant – local business owner, economic developer in Lawrence County and former Democratic political candidate – will serve as co-chairs of the new group.

“We want to provide a bi-partisan opportunity for voters in northeast Arkansas to network, discuss politics and issues, and question candidates,” Allen said.

“In today’s social media, we do not have enough face-to-face interactions with our elected officials. We seek to solve that,” said Bryant.

The inaugural meeting of NEA Political Animals will be on Friday, September 13, noon at Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Gubernatorial candidate and former Congressman Asa Hutchinson will be the speaker and attendees will be allowed to ask questions.

All other gubernatorial candidates will be invited to address the group at a later time. Tickets will be $20 (lunch included) and available at the door, but RSVPs are needed by Friday September 6. To RSVP, send an email to [email protected].
