Tolbert: Long-time Democratic State Legislator Endorses Asa Hutchinson
The Asa Hutchinson campaign is expected to pick up an endorsement from across the aisle. Former State Sen. Jerry Taylor – a long time Democrat from south Arkansas – will endorse Hutchinson in his campaign for governor.
“I support Asa’s candidacy for Governor and fully support his efforts. I believe he is the right man to lead Arkansas now. We cannot afford to turn Arkansas’ top post over to anyone who ever voted for or helped to advance Obamacare. Asa will make a great Governor,” said Taylor in a statement released to the Tolbert Report.
Asa Hutchinson added, “I am honored to have Jerry Taylor’s support. Few in modern Arkansas history have cast a public shadow as large as Jerry’s in South Arkansas. This endorsement is further validation of what I’m hearing as I travel the state – that given the choice, Arkansans, whether Republican or Democrat, prefer our commitment to economic growth and consistent opposition to Obamacare to their alternative choices in the race.”
In addition to eight years in the Arkansas State Senate, Taylor previously served two terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives, as the mayor of Pine Bluff for eight years and as a member of the Pine Bluff City Council for 12 years. It is notable that his public service was in Ross’s home district that he previously represented in Congress.
