Cong. Cotton Seen As Quick To Succeed In New Congress

Freshman Congressman Tom Cotton (R) garners advance publicity in Politico this morning.

Cotton, who was elected in November to represent Arkansas’ Fourth Congressional District, is pegged “most likely to succeed” among the freshmen class of new representatives who will be sworn into office on Thursday.

During his campaign, Cotton was cheered by everyone from Sen. John McCain to the fiscally conservative Club for Growth to Mike Huckabee. Cotton’s widespread appeal across GOP circles already has many buzzing he’ll quickly move up the ranks in the House. Recently, Cotton penned an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal from a “soldier’s eye view” slamming the could-be nomination of former Sen. Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense, and he’s been one of the loudest voices against the sequester — a signal he’s more than ready to be his party’s voice on the Pentagon and defense spending.

Cotton showed a nice touch of class on Wednesday with a press release thanking outgoing Cong. Mike Ross (D) for his service and assistance in transition.

“I want to thank Mike Ross for his service to Arkansas and our country, as well as his support for a smooth transition. In both the state Senate and the Congress, Mike leaves a legacy of service and civility. I am personally grateful for the advice and support Mike and his team provided over the last two months.
