She's about to take over the helm at Mount Saint Mary Academy and entrepreneur Karen Flake expects to bring her business acumen to the all-girls high school's short-term and long-term livelihood.

An alumna of Mount Saint Mary's and a former teacher there, Flake will utilize her more than 3 decades of business leadership in the new role.

In the latest edition of Talk Business Quarterly, Flake shares some of her experiences in busines

s and how it has shaped her approach to leading companies and community projects.

A market researcher who has headed a number of successful ventures, Flake has seen an evolution for women in executive roles since the 1980's when she first launched her career.

“I think, for women to be in the role of boss in the ‘80s- and ‘90s-time frame, we had to be very corporate,” Flake said. “Over time, we began to see what’s possible. Women are able to be feminine and still be a corporate professional.”
