Movie Reviews: Contagion & Sarah’s Key
"Contagion" and "Sarah’s Key" are the two films I reviewed on KARZ-TV’s morning show.
"Contagion" has a fantastic cast with Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Jude Law to name just a few and tells the story of how a deadly virus from China spreads across the globe killing millions in a very brief amount of time. The film shows how vulnerable how human society is to infectious diseases and how delicate our social fabric truly is. The ensemble cast means there are various plot lines weaved together as victims struggle with the deadly disease and how scientists race to cure it.
"Sarah’s Key" stars Kristin Scott Thomas as an American journalist in Paris who is investigating an horrific incident in 1942 where the French government rounded up Jewish citizens on behalf of the Nazis. The film has a parallel story told in flashback of a young French girl who moments before her capture by the Nazis hides her 4-year old brother in the closet and desperately tries to return home with the key to let him out. We learn at the beginning of the film that the apartment where the young girl and her family are captured is the same one that Thomas and her family are planning to move into.
