Little Rock Wages $2.60 Below National Average

The Dallas office of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics today released "Occupational Employment and Wages in Little Rock, May 2010," a report containing employment and wage information for 22 major occupational groups and more than 500 detailed jobs in the greater Little Rock metropolitan area. 

The mean wage for all occupations in the Little Rock metro area was $18.75 per hour in May 2010 compared to a national average of $21.35. Local wages for the major groups ranged from $9.25 per hour in food preparation and serving related jobs to $42.53 in management occupations.
 
BLS noted several additional statistics in the report:

  • Wages in the local area were measurably lower than their respective national averages in 19 of the 22 major occupational groups.
  • Local employment was more highly concentrated than the national average in 4 of 22 occupational groups including office and administrative support; healthcare practitioners and technical; and installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Conversely, local employment shares were significantly below the U.S average in 8 groups, including education, training, and library; production; and architecture and engineering.
