KAIT 8 News in Jonesboro reports that manufacturing concern L.A. Darling will downsize its workforce in northeast Arkansas laying off 130-140 workers. Another 160 workers could be laid off temporarily.

Paragould-based L.A. Darling, which manufactures metal store fixtures for retailers, blamed declining sales orders for the cuts. After the layoffs, the company’s workforce will settle around 30-40 employees.

There is a chance that workers could be rehired if the economy rebounds, according to the KAIT 8 report.

"They expect orders to come back. They’re not moving out any equipment, any machines or something like that. Small orders will continue to be built here in Corning," said Corning Mayor Dewayne Phelan. "They expect orders to come back in within the first quarter of next year."
