Ethics Bills Head To Beebe’s Desk
Two bills aimed at reforming state legislators’ travel and term-limited employment were approved by the State Senate on Wednesday and sent to Gov. Mike Beebe for signature.
Senate Bill 194 and House Bill 1284, both sponsored and supported by Senate and House leaders, passed the full Senate on 35-0 votes.
The bills would make more uniform reimbursement rates for out-of-state travel and place new restrictions on future state lawmakers’ ability to lobby. The two bills are "mirror" bills, meaning that reflect the same language.
Gov. Beebe has said he is supportive of the reforms, but had hoped legislators might go further. The Governor has five days to act on the bills.
