Kevin Holmes announced Tuesday (June 30) he will run for the Arkansas House of Representatives seat (District 66) now occupied by State Rep. Rick Green, R-Van Buren, who is term limited.

Holmes, an attorney in Van Buren, said he will run as a Republican and will not seek reelection to the Crawford County Quorum Court where he has served two terms.

“I think my experience on the Quorum Court and my education and work experience as an attorney will be a good fit for the State Legislature,” Holmes said in a statement. “My core beliefs are that the government should be less involved in people’s daily lives.”

Holmes also said he will continue the efforts of Rep. Green to support development of a regional intermodal system.

“The intermodal system is vital to our continued economic development and could bring hundreds of jobs to our region,” Holmes said.

Holmes is a Van Buren High School graduate, with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and earned a juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas.

In addition to serving on the Crawford County Quorum Court, Holmes is a member of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, a former board member for the Alma Chamber of Commerce, is a graduate of the Van Buren Police Academy, has served as deputy city attorney for Van Buren and for Kibler, and is a 2005 graduate of the Leadership Crawford County program.
