Cook: Movie Review Of ‘Dumb and Dumber To’
Twenty-years ago, “Dumb and Dumber” was a mega-hit putting the Farrelly Brothers on the map and it solidified Jim Carrey’s status as a comedic superstar.
Twenty years later, they finally made a sequel to the hilarious original film and after seeing their latest effort it’s clear they should have left well enough alone.
I won’t bother fully explaining the plot since in many ways it’s a complete rehash of the 1994 storyline: Harry and Lloyd, played by Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, take a roadtrip to find an attractive woman while, unbeknownst to them, they’re trailed by the bad guys who want something very valuable the goofy duo are transporting.
The humor of the latest film is along the same lines as the 1994 movie, which back then was delightfully both innocent and edgy, but now seems just sad with two actors in their 50’s attempting silly frat-boy humor.
Twenty-years ago, Jim Carrey was at the height of his fame and Jeff Daniels was a well-respected dramatic actor. Now Carrey’s film career seems to be at a standstill while Daniels career continues to flourish, appearing as the lead actor in HBO’s “The Newsroom” and supporting roles in various dramatic films. Hopefully, Jim Carrey will one day soon find comedic roles that match his prodigious talents.
I reviewed the movie on Friday’s Fox16 Good Day Arkansas and scored it 5 out of 10.
In retrospect, I think my rating was too generous.
