State Sen. Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, is the first Republican to get in the race for the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Arkansas. U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, a Democrat, has announced she will run for reelection.

In an interview with Roby Brock at TalkBusiness.net, Republican blogger Jason Tolbert discussed Hendren’s attributes and shortcomings. Tolbert suggests that Hendren’s strengths are his long legislative history in Arkansas and that he has committed up to $1 million of his own money to the effort.

Hendren’s drawbacks, according to Tolbert, are that he is not as conservative as some would like. For example, Hendren voted to support increasing the severance tax and cigarette tax. Also, Hendren has a tendency to speak freely.

“He does have a tendency to speak off the cuff, which would make for an interesting campaign,” Tolbert said.
