Griffin Internal Poll Shows Leads Over Would-be Challengers
First-term freshman Republican Cong. Tim Griffin has released an internal poll that shows favorable job approval numbers and big leads against two potential Democratic challengers.
The live interview of 400 likely Second District voters was conducted by OnMessage, Inc. on November 1-2, 2011 and has a margin of error of +/- 4.9%.
The numbers from Griffin’s poll paint a different picture from other public polls and internal Democratic surveys.
Griffin’s poll shows him with a 53% job approval rating with 27% disapproving.
A Talk Business Poll conducted in mid-September showed Griffin with a 40%-35.5% approval-disapproval rating. A survey conducted in late October by Public Policy Polling for the House Majority PAC, a Democratic group, showed that just 44% of Second District voters support Griffin.
The Griffin internal poll also shows Pres. Barack Obama with a 38% job approval rating. The Talk Business Poll showed Obama with a 31% approval number.
Two potential 2012 challengers — Democratic Party of Arkansas chairman Will Bond and former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter — were added in match-ups against Griffin in his poll, although no one has declared as a candidate against the incumbent for 2012.
According to the survey, Griffin leads Bond 49%-29% and he holds a 50%-29% margin over Halter.
