Fort Smith Public Library Endowment presents 7th annual Black Tie Bingo

Seven once again proved lucky on Saturday (Nov. 8) as the Fort Smith Public Library Endowment Trust hosted its seventh annual "Black Tie Bingo" gala. Held at the Main Branch on Rogers Avenue, the sold-out event drew nearly 200 guests for an evening of fine food, live music, and premier Bingo.

Festivities began at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour that included fine wines, beers, and an assortment of spirits. Guests also enjoyed fruit, cheese, and heavy hors d'oeuvres, while listening to the sounds of the Don Bailey Jazz Ensemble.

New to the event this year was a raffle drawing, which offered guests the chance to purchase tickets and select their potential prize. Tickets were $25 individually or $100 for five. Featured items included a big screen television, a "Big Green Egg" ceramic cooker, an iPad, and more. A 50/50 drawing was also held, with tickets available for $5 a apiece, or five for $20.

Gala-goers sat down to enjoy a formal five-course dinner as the evening's program got underway. Cindy Long, Fort Smith Public Library Endowment development director, took to the microphone to welcome guests and share with them about the event and the Fort Smith Public Library Endowment.

"Thank you so much for your support of this event and of the library endowment," Long said. "The Fort Smith Public Library offers so much to the community and the endowment is proud to support its endeavors. You being here helps make that possible."

The mission of the endowment trust is to "ensure the future strength and vitality of the Fort Smith Public Library." Although largely-funded by tax-payer dollars, the library system depends on additional revenue sources to support its various community programs and initiatives, including endowment funds. The organization operates four branches in the city and receives more than 400,000 visitors each year. Funds from the endowment support numerous special projects such as the library's annual Christmas lights display, building decor, and Dewey's Cafe.

Following the program, guests broke out their daubers for the signature Bingo game. television news anchor Daren Bobb served as the evening's Master of Ceremonies and lead caller. For each game, Bobb recruited the help of a gala guest to draw the numbers and read aloud. Ten rounds of Bingo were played with a number of big-ticket items awarded. Lucky winners took home gift certificates, custom decor, and other prizes.
Since its inception, Black Tie Bingo has raised more than $200,000 for the endowment.
