Agriculture Hall Of Fame To Induct Five

Five new inductees will be included in the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame for their contributions to one of the state’s largest economic engines.

The class of 2010 will be honored March 11 at 11:30 am, at Little Rock’s Embassy Suites Hotel.

The inductees are Don W. Alexander of Bryant (Saline County), Jerry L. Hall of Damascus (Van Buren County), Hugh D. McClain of Mountain Home (Baxter County), the late Dr. Teddy Morelock of Fayetteville (Washington County) and Dr. Milo J. Shult of Conway (Faulkner County).

Alexander spent 35 years at the Arkansas State Plant Board, the last seven as director.

Hall spent more than 40 years of his life as one of Arkansas’ most productive dairymen and in service to the industry.

McClain was a leader in the poultry industry in north central Arkansas and at one time, the largest independent turkey producer in the state. He is also a former president of the National Turkey Federation.

Morelock was one of the premier vegetable breeders in the U.S. and a horticultural professor for 35 years with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. He passed away in April 2009 at the age of 65.

Shult retired Jan. 4, ending 18 years as vice president of the UA Division of Agriculture.                                                                    

The Agriculture Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas Farm Bureau. It honors those who have made significant contributions to Arkansas agriculture, as well as community and economic development.
