Moths:  “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”
Presentation at Hobbs State Park

Author, Lori Spencer, returns to Hobbs State Park for a second program this year.  Spencer has written the award-winning field guide, “Arkansas Butterflies and Moths”.  Her earlier program addressed butterflies.  She notes, “Many people are interested in butterflies because there is so much beauty about them, and moths sometimes ‘take a back seat’ to butterflies.  It is however a fact that many moths are just as beautiful as butterflies.  Some are not.  Many moths that are destructive as caterpillars are important pollinators as adults.”
According to Hobbs State Park interpreter Rebekah Penny, “Lori’s ‘the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ moth program is a chance to learn the features of several moth families, discover the incredible diversity of moths, and how to attract them.  It may seem amazing, but moths outnumber butterflies by 14:1.  We need to get to know them.  ‘Mothing’, from Luna moths to tomato hornworms, is an activity everyone can enjoy morning, noon, and night.”
