More than 100 people gathered Thursday evening to tour the Showcase Home and officially kick off the Fall Parade of Homes conducted by the Greater Fort Smith Association of Homebuilders.

The 2,400-square-foot Showcase Home is located at 8915 South 12th in Fianna Way. Scott Black was the supervising contractor on the project that includes energy-efficient appliances, four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, whole house sound, granite counters, custom cabinets and several other amenities.

“This home represents a contemporary direction for today’s family home. Custom designed with energy certified construction methods and systems to insure ultimate efficiency and livability,” noted association literature.

Justin Green, an area home builder and president of the Board of the Greater Fort Smith Association of Home Builder, praised Black for accepting the challenge of building the home and doing so in less than 90 days.

“In that short period of time, he was able to produce this home you see here today,” Green said Thursday during the Showcase Home presentation.

The home, priced at $263,900, will be open noon to 6 p.m., from Oct. 5 through Oct. 20.

The Fall Parade of Homes features 19 homes in Fort Smith, Hackett, Lavaca and Van Buren. Home prices range from $117,900 to more than $355,000.

The association that was formed in 1955 has been a leading organization nationwide in the promotion of quality housing. The association is one of very few that still conducts two parade of homes events each year. Just a few years ago, the association was recognized nationally for 25 consecutive years of constructing and selling a showcase home.

The association today has 154 member companies who employ at least 8,500 people in the region, with most of those in Crawford and Sebastian counties.
